About Us

Something is broken in the way we live. Kids don't know where food comes from. Work is unsatisfying. Costs continue to rise, and we grow more dependent on fragile systems each year. This shouldn't be the status quo. There must be a better way.

Good League Hence (GLH) is operated by Joel Peddle as a way to support the restoration of homesteading in America. GLH takes its name from a verse in the Christmas Carol, Good King Wenceslas, capturing the moment when his squire identifies a yonder peasant who "lives a good league hence underneath the mountain, right against the forest fence by St. Agnes Fountain." GLH helps neighbors, no matter how far away.

GLH offers consultations, education and products. To get in touch, email goodleaguehence@gmail.com or submit a form on the contact page. On our education page, we have lists of books, podcasts, articles and more that have both shaped our philosophy and actions. GLH carries an authentic spirit of nurturing the land, engaging community and revitalizing the lives that are placed before us.

Our Homesteader's Hearth Collection consists of firestarters for your hearth, kindling sticks, bundles of seasoned firewood, and sawdust/coffee briquettes-- for indoor and outdoor use.

This collection features foldable sawbucks that are excellent for cutting logs (bucking). These are handcarved, artisan item that come with "Good League Hence" branded on the front. These sawbucks also come with removable table tops to double as a workbench or dinner table.

In the near future, we aim to introduce our Shire Collection featuring Tolkien-themed tool sheds, dog houses, tree forts, and root cellars. We also offer consultations on how your family may transition to a homesteading way of life, both in the city and in the country.  Contact us for more information.
